Living in a home on Queen Anne Hill, Seattle, WA, a young family comprising a husband, wife, toddler daughter, and pet dog had little privacy and security. They parked their car on the street near their home, and like homeowners in other parts of the Seattle region, they worried about auto theft and vandalism.
The house is situated on an alley that opened directly to their backyard, which was an untamed, unusable space.
This Queen Anne family wanted an alley gate to keep their family safe, the car safe, and the dog and their daughter inside the backyard.
The homeowners contacted Automated Gates, and Doug Rich, one of our senior sales professionals, visited their home. Our team has fabricated and installed several alley gates in the Queen Anne area.
Doug recommended a solid Corten steel sliding privacy gate adjoining black metal fence panels to enclose the entire fence line to give them the security, privacy, and look they wanted. Our team fabricated the sliding gate panels and fence panels first. We then integrated their mailbox into the fence to give their alleyway exposure an elegant look.
Their new sliding driveway gate opens on a downhill slope. We installed custom stanchions to ensure its solid footing and installed the motor in the corner of one stanchion to keep it out of site. Because of the downhill slope, we installed a clutch system on the gate to ensure it remains securely in the open position when required.
Our teams completed the Corten steel sliding gate installation in winter 2023. The property facing the alleyway is now private and secure. Its stately beauty adds significantly to the curb appeal of the family’s Queen Anne home.
Completing the Backyard Transformation
The sliding driveway gate was the first part of their backyard transformation. With the backyard safely enclosed, the family installed pavers, a lovely firepit, landscaping, and a play area for their daughter and her dog. Their once unused backyard is now a place for quality family time, relaxation, and a safe place to park their car.
Q. What is Corten Steel? What Are Corten Steel’s Benefits For Privacy Gates?
A. Corten steel or weathered steel is a group of steel alloys used for exterior construction. It is popular for bridge structures, which need strength and the ability to withstand the elements. It is an excellent choice where painting is unwanted or unnecessary. Corten steel develops a rust coating, which also acts as a sealant. As a result, Corten steel does not drip or run. It creates a unique patina. It provides a perfect sliding gate structure for many custom projects.
